Jose Martí was a hero in the Cuban nation. He also was an
important figure in Latin-American literature. During his lifetime, he was a
poet, essayist, journalist, Revolutionary philosopher, translator, professor,
publisher and a political theorist. He was part of the Cuban Freemasons. He
became a symbol of a bid for Cuban freedom against Spain for his writings and
what he would say. Marti was known as the “Apostle of Cuban independence”.
He was a key figure to the planning of the war against Spain
for freedom. Marti also was the designer of the Cuban Revolutionary Party. He
himself came up with the ideology of the Cuban Revolutionary Party. Sadly, he
died in military action on May, 19, 1895.
